• The Business Leadership Council (BLC) of Wellesley College was formed in 1989 by a small group of alumnae who shared a common bond based on their positions of senior leadership in business and a Wellesley education that prepared them for leadership in their chosen careers. The BLC was formed with the intent to give back to the College, its constituents, and the wider community through the talents and collective commitment of its members. The BLC comprises over 225 alumnae globally.

    Mission Statement

The BLC is an association of Wellesley alumnae who are senior leaders in the business and non-profit sectors. We support:

    • The College in its mission to educate women who will make a difference in the world
    • Students and alumnae in their careers and development as leaders
    • Each other in our own development

The Business Leadership Council invites active Wellesley Alumnae who are senior leaders in business or non-profit organizations to be considered for membership. The membership criteria states that a candidate shall "meet the primary criterion of a management leadership position. She is an active business leader, owner, senior executive and/or high-level decision maker who has demonstrated sustained and recognized leadership positions in a company, organization or institution."

A candidate can be nominated for membership by a current BLC member, or by filling out a self-nomination form. The BLC Membership Committee reviews nominations for membership quarterly, gathers any additional information needed, and makes recommendations to the leadership of the BLC Board for approval.

The complete membership criteria and nomination form can be found in the navigation tabs above.

Members of the BLC convene in-person at annual events:

    - Plenary, a two-day program on campus each fall, highlighting key topics of interest and featuring conversations with Wellesley College leadership plus student and member interaction

    - Retreat, a  multi-day visit to sites across the US, with educational content and a relaxed setting for members and their invited guest(s).

Smaller gatherings at regional events occur throughout the year in major cities in the U.S and internationally.

Members are also invited to virtual events, including the highly-regarded Global Leadership Series coordinated by BLC members Margo Loebl ('82) and Kate Grussing ('86), and corporate board initiatives.
